Gerd Treatment in Battle Creek & Kalamazoo, MI
How It Works
Transoral Incisionless Fundoplication or TIF is a procedure that corrects the root cause of GERD (or heartburn), an anatomic deficiency at the gastroesophageal junction. TIF is effective because it does not require any incisions, it is performed quickly, safely, and with minimal patient downtime.TIF is considered a procedure called NOS or Natural Orifice Surgery because the EsophyX is introduced through the mouth as opposed to through an abdominal incision. The reason this incisionless surgery is advantageous is because there are virtually no scars and reduced patient discomfort.
How It Is Performed
TIF is performed once the patient is placed under general anesthesia, the EsophyX device is introduced into the body through the mouth and advanced into the esophagus under the visualization of a video camera. The device is used to fasten several tissue folds to create a robust entireflux valve which prevents reflux. The results are very promising though not all GERD sufferers are candidates for TIF.
